RB-50 Review

Here's a quick review of the magnetic mount I use for my highway trips, the Heavy Duty Nagoya RB-50 NMO mount.  I wanted to avoid drilling a hole in the roof, yet wanted something I knew wasn't going to blow off the roof at high speeds.

What's in the Package

-  The RB-50 Magnetic Mount
with 18 foot of RG-58A/U, terminated with PL-259
-  Rain Cap

This is not a conversional magnetic mount for light duty antennas. This one has a 5" base and is rated for antennas up to 50" in length. I personally use a 39" Nagoya TB-320A tri-bander with no issues at all. The 18' length of RG-58A/U cable is enough to run under the carpet up to the front and still have a few feet left over.

The magnetic base uses a 5" 'rare earth' magnet that takes two hands to remove from the top of the vehicle..

I've used the 'good enough' magnetic mount antennas in the past and found them dangling from the roof before the end of the trip.

Performance/Summary

For reference, the 39" Nagoya TB-320A tri-band has a fair amount of wind resistance traveling at highway speeds and this antenna mount has never budged.

If you are looking for a heavy duty NMO magnetic mount to avoid drilling holes in your vehicle, I highly recommend this one.
