Frequency Mode vs. Channel Mode

These two modes have different functions and often confused.

Frequency Mode - Used for a temporary frequency assignment, such as a test frequency or quick field programming if permitted.

Channel Mode - Used for selecting preprogrammed channels.

All programming MUST be initially done in the Frequency Mode only. From there you have the option of assigning the entered data to a specific channel for later access in the Channel Mode if desired.







Programming Repeater with Standard Offset

into channel 99
Change from Menu to Menu by pressing and holding the CHA+/- or VOL+/- buttons.
Once proper menu is selected, you can move from Option to Option the same way.

Set radio to VFO Mode   (Frequency)

Naming / Labeling a Channel

The following is a Radio setting (not a channel setting) that sets the radio to accept user defined channel names.  This only needs to be done once.

Remain in MR Mode   (Channel)
 
Select Channel to be Labeled using  CHA+/-
 
  [M]     Enter Menu mode

[M] ON [M]     Accept channel name display for that channel

P2     CHA+/- or VOL+/- to select
Alpha Character to be displayed in position 1
  P2         CHA+/- or VOL+/- to select
Alpha Character to be displayed in position 2
  P2         CHA+/- or VOL+/- to select
Alpha Character to be displayed in position 3
  P2     Continue this process until complete name is entered.
Up to 7 characters can be displayed
  P3     Naming now completed for that channel
