Frequency Mode vs. Channel Mode

These two modes have different functions and often confused.

Frequency Mode (VFO) - Used for a temporary frequency assignment, such as a test frequency or quick field programming if permitted.

Channel Mode (MR) - Used for selecting preprogrammed channels.

All programming MUST be initially done in the Frequency Mode only. From there you have the option of assigning the entered data to a specific channel for later access in the Channel Mode if desired.

Note" The Menu button on the microphone and F button on the radio serve the same purpose.

Preliminary Display Appearance Setting
for Upper and Lower Display

(can be set in either VFO or MR mode)

Menu 29	[M]	Frequency Name Channel	[M] [EXIT]	Select the desired display appearance for Upper Display

Menu 30	[M]	Frequency Name Channel	[M] [EXIT]	Select the desired display appearance for Lower Display

Programming Repeater with Standard Offset

RX = 146.850 MHz
TX = 146.250 MHz

into channel 99

Set radio to VFO Mode by pressing [V/M]
Channel number at the right will disappear.

Menu 37	[M]	9 9	[M] [EXIT]	Delete Prior Data in channel

Menu 13	[M]	123.0	[M] [EXIT]	Select desired TX encode tone

Use [A/B] to select Upper display.
Enter 146850				Enter the Receive frequency
Use [A/B] to select Lower display.
Enter 146250				Enter the Transmit frequency
Use [A/B] to return to Upper display.
Menu 36	[M]	99	[M] [EXIT]	Enters the Receive channel

Use [A/B] to select Lower display
Menu 36	[M]	99	[M] [EXIT]	Enters the transmit channel

			[V/M]	Return to MR Mode Channel number will re-appear.

Programming a Simplex Channel

446.000 MHz
into channel 99

Set radio to VFO Mode by pressing [V/M]
Channel number at the right will disappear.

Menu 37	[M]	99	[M] [EXIT]	Delete Prior Data in channel

		446000		Enter RX in upper display
Menu 36	[M]	99	[M] [EXIT]	Key in the desired channel

			[V/M]	Return to MR Mode Channel number will re-appear.

Entering a Channel NAME

Set radio to Channel Mode (MR) by pressing [V/M]
Channel number will appear at the right.

Select the display that will show the channel's NAME. (Upper or Lower)
This only needs to be done once.

Menu 29	[M]	NAME	[M] [EXIT]	Changes Upper display to NAME

Menu 30	[M]	NAME	[M] [EXIT]	Changes Lower display to NAME

Entering the Name

Dial in channel to be changed.

- Select [MENU] 28 [MENU] (The display will start flashing)

- Use keys (or radio dial) to select the desired character.
- Press [# Lock] button on the keypad.
- Repeat above until name field is complete.

- Press [MENU] to Save.
